Foundation for Environmental Protection in Tanzania (FEPT)

The Foundation for Environmental Protection in Tanzania (FEPT) is a youth-led nonprofit based in Arusha, dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, ecosystem restoration, and climate resilience. Founded four years ago, FEPT empowers communities across Tanzania through education, community-based initiatives, and policy advocacy, helping them adopt sustainable practices, protect biodiversity, and improve livelihoods. Guided by integrity, accountability, and fairness, FEPT works to ensure people and nature thrive together for generations to come.

Breaking Barriers to Sustainable Development

Many communities in Tanzania face environmental challenges such as deforestation, poor land management, climate change impacts, and limited access to resources and education. FEPT responds by providing hands-on programs that engage communities in climate-smart agriculture, biodiversity protection, waste management, and environmental education. Through participatory approaches, FEPT ensures solutions are locally owned, culturally relevant, and sustainable.

Empowering Generations

FEPT works directly with Tanzanian communities to strengthen resilience, improve livelihoods, and protect the environment.

FEPT empowers communities by:

    • Community-Based Climate Resilience Program – Helping communities adopt climate-smart agriculture, conserve water, and use renewable energy to adapt to climate change.
    • Ecosystem Restoration & Biodiversity Conservation – Restoring degraded landscapes, planting native trees, and protecting local wildlife to maintain healthy ecosystems.
    • Sustainable Livelihoods Initiative – Supporting eco-friendly income-generating activities such as beekeeping, agroforestry, and sustainable tourism, enabling families to earn sustainable incomes.
    • Environmental Education & Youth Engagement – Running school and community programs that raise awareness, build environmental stewardship, and equip young people with conservation knowledge.
    • Policy Advocacy for Environmental Protection – Collaborating with policymakers to strengthen environmental laws, improve governance, and integrate sustainability into local development plans.
    • Clean Water & Sanitation Projects – Expanding access to safe water and promoting hygiene practices in underserved communities.

FEPT implements these programs year-round, ensuring communities can continuously participate in initiatives such as reforestation, waste management campaigns, environmental clubs, and climate-smart agriculture training—building long-term resilience and sustainable growth.

    Impact and Support

FEPT collaborates with local communities, government institutions, NGOs, and international partners, including Rikolto East Africa, TRIAS East Africa, Arusha City Council, The Nature Aid, The Kesho Trust, and Tanzania Forest Services Agency. These partnerships amplify their impact in ecosystem protection, climate resilience, youth empowerment, and sustainable community development.

    How to get involved

Donations to FEPT directly strengthen local communities by funding programs in climate-smart agriculture, ecosystem restoration, water and sanitation, and sustainable livelihoods. Contributions also support environmental education campaigns and policy advocacy efforts, helping communities adopt sustainable practices and improve overall well-being.
