    PROJECT DETAILS

    Impact Statement

The Msichana Mawimbi Project, in partnership with Explore With Purpose, addresses period poverty and stigma in Monduli District, Tanzania. The project has already provided menstrual health education to over 300 girls as well as their parents and elders, trained them in making reusable sanitary items, and distributed care packages to each participant. These workshops are also challenging cultural taboos, empowering girls to pursue education without fear.

    Project Overview

    WHO:
Adolescent girls in Monduli focusing on Irkisongo Secondary School, which serves 1,600 girls from Maasai communities.

    WHY:
85% of girls at Irkisongo lack menstrual products, leading to infections, absenteeism, and academic struggles. Cultural taboos prevent open discussions on menstruation.

    WHAT:
The project educates girls on menstrual health, trains them to make reusable pads, and provides each girl with four pads. The goal is to improve hygiene, reduce absenteeism, and foster open dialogue.

    IMPACT:
Girls will gain menstrual health knowledge and share it with peers, impacting at least 500 girls at Irkisongo. This will help improve attendance, academic performance, and general well-being.
