TEACHER'S COMPLEX

In collaboration with TAASA Lodge

SUPPORTING EDUCATORS IN OLOLOSOKWAN

At the core of our nonprofit, we believe in the importance of education. We also believe in making sure that any positive action we make (building classrooms) does not have a negative impact elsewhere (disproportionate number of teachers to housing). We know that these teachers are building futures for these kids and want them to feel supported and make a community that is so special to us, as special for them.

Explore With Purpose has partnered with TAASA Lodge to address the need of creating an teacher’s complex to support the educators of the Ololosokwan Primary School.

PROJECT DETAILS

Project Background

In Tanzania, teachers are assigned to remote schools, often separating them from their families. Typically, the number of teachers per school is determined by the number classrooms on the premises, not by student population. As we have expanded classrooms in Ololosokwan to offer children the best education possible, we found it crucial to proportionally invest in teacher housing.

The existing teacher’s complex was inadequate for the growing number of educators. We understand the vital role teachers play in shaping young minds. As they leave their homes and families to serve our community, we must provide them with a comfortable and functional living space. This is not just about personal comfort, but also about creating an environment that empowers them to excel.

The construction of new living quarters helped address this need. It not only ensured adequate personal space but also fosters a sense of community among teachers, enhancing collaboration and support. Investing in their well-being is an investment in the future of Ololosokwan’s children.

Scope of Works

This renovation, overseen by a dedicated  Project Manager on the ground in Tanzania, focused on creating 2 x units, each comprising 3 rooms, 1 sitting room a kitchen and store, bathroom and courtyard. Works included:

  • Substructure & Super Structure build
  • Roofing
  • Windows, ceilings & doors
  • Fit-out, paining, finishes, water & electrical
