INVESTING IN EDUCATION IN MAIROWA
“An estimated 2 million Tanzanian children between ages 7 and 13 are out of school, and almost 70% of children aged 14-17 are not enrolled in secondary education”. A challenge faced at the smaller villages in Tanzania is the lack of infrastructure to support the growing number of enrolled learners. Class size and comfortability is a key factor affecting learning outcomes, especially where classes are very large or cover several grades. The early grades are the most critical and yet tend to be the most crowded.
Explore With Purpose has successfully completed two projects at Mairowa Primary School to address overcrowding and improve the learning environment.

PROJECT DETAILS
Impact Statement
The construction of two new classrooms at Mairowa Primary School has significantly reduced overcrowding. Some class sizes were cut in half, from 150 students to 75, creating a better learning environment. Additionally, essential school supplies were provided, including 1,000 notebooks, pens, and markers, as well as 10 new cooking pots for student nutrition. Two printers were also supplied for the teachers to enhance their educational efforts.
Project Overview
WHO:
Mairowa Primary School is a day school serving nearly 800 learners across 10 classrooms, facing overcrowding with up to 150 students per class.
WHY:
Overcrowded classrooms, especially in early grades, negatively impact education. With many Tanzanian children out of school, reducing overcrowding is crucial to improving learning outcomes.
WHAT:
To address this, we built two additional classrooms and provided desks, school supplies, kitchen equipment, and printers to support both students and teachers.
IMPACT:
This project provided vital resources to the teachers and learners of Mairowa Primary School.
